Designed with storefronts on the ground floor and residential spaces above, these narrow and compact structures from a bygone era have a sheltered “five-foot” walkway running along the front.
Once home to merchants and traders, they now form the bulk of Singapore’s gazetted conservation buildings.
In line with conservation guidelines, hovoh is redefining the co-living experience by melding the old with the new – sustainable and trendy lifestyle arrangements within these pre-war shophouses that are part of Singapore’s architectural heritage.
By upgrading the interiors to create a comfortable, safe and complete co-living space while preserving their historic integrity and iconic facade, hovoh is giving these shophouses a new lease of life – and adding to the rich character of Bras Basah.
